Week 3: My Reflection

I think my group's progress was very steady. We had completed the script, including amendments, in under two weeks, and wrapped up filming in a day.

I am glad there was no need to sacrifice time for group discussions. Discussing roles and all were done during lessons therefore we only had to stay back for two hours to film. This meant more time for our own studying for the examinations, which is a good thing for me.

Week 3: Filming

Success!
We managed to film all the scenes in one day, on 25 April, Thursday. Daniel had brought his DSLR camera and we finished by 4 pm, starting from about 2.30 pm.

Daniel will compile and edit the video for submission, and he will do so in the exam-break week.

Week 2: Script

Beginnning (setting)
Nuryn: Hey, do you guys know Sing Yu?
Bing Hong: No, why?
Daniel: Isn't he our new classmate?
Azryn: I think he's ok.
Syamir: *face Azryn & widen eyes* You talked to him already?
Azryn: *nods* Yeah. But he doesn't talk much.
Bing Hong: He seems shy.
Nuryn: I think he has trouble fitting in.
Daniel: He looks like a nice guy though. *looks at Sing Yu who is a few tables away*
Nuryn: *looks at Sing Yu* I saw him eating alone yesterday. Should we befriend him? *turn back to face the rest*
Syamir: Yes, we should. *nods hard*
Bing Hong: I wonder what he's thinking. *looks at Sing Yu*
Camera will change to be Sing Yu's ''eyes''. Daniel voice-over his thoughts.
It's so hard to make friends. No one has talked to me except Azryn. It's so pathetic that I eat alone while he has his group of friends. I wish they would befriend me. *sigh*
Build-up + Climax
After school, they see Sing Yu in the canteen, eating alone again. Syamir takes the initiative to come over to Sing Yu, and the rest follow.
Syamir: *stand next to Sing Yu, who looks up from his food as they approach* Hi! Can we sit with you?
Azryn: Yeah, let's have lunch together.
Sing Yu: *nods* Sure. Come and seat. *make space for Syamir, who sits beside him*
Daniel, Nuryn & Azryn: *put bags opposite Sing Yu*
Nuryn: *face Daniel and Syamir* Why don't you guys go buy your food first? I want to ask Sing Yu some questions.
Azryn: *face the two as well* Yeah, I want to stay here and talk to him too.
Bing Hong: Okay, we'll come back soon. *turns and walk away with Daniel, who nods*
Nuryn: *face Sing Yu* How's Pasir Ris? Made any new friends?
Sing Yu: No, I haven't.
Azryn: *acts surprised* Oh, so I'm not a friend lah? (sarcastic)
Sing Yu: *grins* Only you.
Nuryn: If Azryn's your friend, then you're our friend too. Syamir especially, wanted to know more about you.
Azryn: Yeah, it was his idea to come have lunch together.
Nuryn: They're coming back now. *sees into the distance*
Syamir and Daniel sit down.
Nuryn: *stands up and motions to Azryn* Come on, let's go.
Azryn: *follows suit*
Daniel: So what did you guys talk about?
Syamir: Did they say something about me? *start eating*
Sing Yu: They said you wanted to befriend me. Is that true?
Daniel: *nods*
Syamir: You don't seem to know anyone here. Friends? *smiles hopefully*
Sing Yu: *A moment's pause* Yeah, ok! *smiles*
Falling action
A month has passed since they become friends. All of them, except Sing Yu, are outside the library finishing a project.
Syamir: I wish Sing Yu was here. *stops writing and sighs*
Daniel: He's a good teammate, responsible and always coming for all our meetings.
Azryn: I know. He's a good artist too. See, my drawings and his are different. *gestures about the drawings*
Nuryn: If he was here, our project would be finished faster. Anyway, come on guys. Just a bit more to go.
Syamir: We'll just show Sing Yu our finished project tomorrow.
All of them go back to work, after a short talk reflecting about Sing Yu.
Resolution
Syamir is talking about Reina and Kamiliah, two of their classmates who have been best friends since primay school.
Syamir: They're so close! Go toilet, go recess, go home, everything they do is together.
Daniel: I wonder how they managed to stay friends for so long.
Azryn: Yeah, a few years' is not short you know.
Nuryn: They trust each other a lot. All their secrets and everything else is shared, and they tell no one about it.
Sing Yu: Without trust, there will be no friendships.
Azryn: Yeah, trust is very important. Not just friends, but family and other people too.
Bing Hong: Respect too. For ourselves and other people.
Daniel: Friends must care about one another, not hurt each other's feelings.
Nuryn: They must have mutual understanding and acceptance.
Bing Hong: Friends should always be there for each other, no matter what. That's what true friendship means.
Syamir: It's not running away when he or she is in trouble.
Nuryn: What we all said about friends is true. What's life without friends?
Bing Hong: Look at us. *everyone has a reflective and thoughtful expression* We trust each other, that's the most important thing.
Syamir, Daniel and Nuryn nod.
Azryn: Sure, I trust Sing Yu too... Like that time I told him about the cinemas... *look sarcastically at Sing Yu*
Sing Yu: *Grins* He spilled his drink on his pants and on the floor!
All of them laugh.
Syamir: *still giggling* Yeah, you told us before!
Azryn: And I TRUSTED *stress the word sarcastically* him not to tell you guys, but he still did.
Another bout of laughter seized them all.

Week 1

Hmm... we've come up with the 5 scenarios:

1) 6 long-lost friends meet up at Burger King and start reminiscing their old times and share
    what they think friendship means.
2) 5 classmates talk about their new classmates and decide to go and befriend him. The last
scene is months later and the 6 of them are best friends. Seeing another group of friends
doing crazy antics, they laugh and realise what a friendship means.
3) A son is struggling to live up to his mother's high academic expectations of him. He
always talks about the stress he faces to his 2 friends. His teacher notices the frequent
stressed and tired expression he wears and meets up with the mother. After the talk, the
mother realises her unrealistic expectations and imposes more achievable ones. They
become a better family again, with the mother now understanding and appreciating how
good her son is already doing and the son continuing to work hard.
4) Struggling to accept the death of a beloved family member. With the support of friends
and help from the rest of his family, he manages to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
5) As usual, a group of friends complain to one another about their respective families;
nagging mother, irritating sister and such. As they go on, they realise the reason their
family did so and better appreciate the love and care shown.

Among these, we picked Scenario 2.
We thought it was meaningful if we talked about friendship and what it means to us. The scenario also has us befriending a new person, and that itself is also part and parcel of life. Hence, it was relevant as well.
Talking about friendships is a reflective process and makes use of our critical thinking skills, and make us realise how fortunate we are to have friends that we can count on. Subconsciously, such discussions also makes us value the friends we have now and give courage to make new ones and above all, the importance of having true friends.

Week 0

Hmm... we had come up with 2 scenarios.
1st: 6 long-lost friends meet up @ BK and while reminiscing their old times in sec sch, they discuss what is important in friendships.
2nd: 5 friends talk about their new classmate & try to figure how to be a good friend

We plan to make our scenarios meaningful, and Syamir (scriptwriter) is thinking about family struggle next.
